It’s Independence Day. Unfortunately, the weather is proving to be a bust, and I’m counting the number of people that come down here for vacation decide to cancel their summer fun, so that we can get into a popular restaurant this evening. The rain started yesterday and it rain sporadically all day, sometimes heavily, sometimes lightly, sometimes from the sky, and sometimes the rain came down sideways. It rained pretty much until about 7:00-8:00 PM, then there were tiny peaks of sun, then the rain continued. It’s supposed to rain like this all the way until Saturday night. Most of the fireworks are cancelled for today. The Sunshine State does not have much sunshine in the summer. It’s hot, it’s humid, and every afternoon there are loud thunderstorms as a result of the sea breeze. There is some consolation that it does not get nearly as hot as other places at the same latitude.
This morning I got up at my normal time, and ran on the treadmill, and now, I’m going to go about my day and get ready for my parents and brother to descend upon my house. My brother has never stepped foot in my home, and I’m a little anxious about him coming here. The yard is a disaster, because of all the rain and my inability to garden. At least the inside of the house looks clean and neat. I’ll have to run the vacuum because of my shedder is still losing hair. I also worry about his reaction to my 95 pound Golden Retriever. Thor is a horse, but he is a sweet gentle dog, who spends the vast majority of his hours sleeping either in his kennel, the bathroom, or in the middle of whatever floor I’m trying to clean. He is 100% my son’s dog, and really doesn’t listen to me.
So that’s my low key Independence Day, nothing really exciting to do, except sit in a window and watch the rain come down, or watch Sadie and Thor outside catching earthworms, lizards, and frogs.
